Laredo, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the World Trade Bridge seized more than $6,500,000 in hard narcotics hidden in a shipment of flowers.
It happened on Aug. 9 at the bridge, which is one of four international bridges located in the cities of Laredo, Texas, and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, connecting the United States and Mexico over the Rio Grande.
A CBP officer referred a 2023 Freightliner hauling a utility refrigerated trailer carrying the commercial shipment of flowers. Following a canine and non-intrusive inspection system examination, officers discovered 712.54 pounds of methamphetamine.
"CBP prioritizes its border security mission on a daily basis,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “CBP officers work diligently using all tools available to combat these narcotic trends.”
Homeland Security Investigations special agents are investigating the seizure.
