Detroit — Towards the end of training camp, The Detroit Lions hold a rookie-showcase. It’s the team’s version of ‘Showtime at The Apollo.’The newcomers showcase their talents. The veterans reward their performance with either cheers or boos. It’s become an annual event for The Lions and the players love it.
This year, Lions rookie running back, Sione Vaki stole the show.
“Vaki’s voice, it was pretty phenomenal. It really was,” said Lions Head Coach, Dan Campbell. “Maybe he’ll sing for you guys sometime, you need to ask him.”
Following Wednesday’s practice, media members asked Vaki if he would share a small sample of his talent show performance. Vaki did not disappoint. He sang a snippet of the school song from the movie, ‘Lean on Me.’The young man can really sing! The media members clapped following his impromptu performance after practice.
Vaki played his college football for The Utah Utes. The Lions drafted Vaki in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He’s competing for playing time at the running back position with Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, and Craig Reynolds.
If The NFL doesn’t work out, Vaki can always set up a Residency in Las Vegas and began a new career as a professional singer.
