PBR legend Bones, passes away at 21

North Carolina “I raised Bones behind my house and his head was bigger than his body then,” Teague Bucking Bulls Trainer, Lee Holt once said.  “He was really nothing but a bag of bones, is all he was.”

That skinny calf, born on March 31, 2003, matured into one of the fiercest bucking bulls ever.

Two-time World Champion, Bones, passed away peacefully Aug. 15 on owner Tom Teague’s North Carolina ranch. Bones was 21 years old.

Bones only competed for four seasons but his impact was undeniable. Bones won his first championship in 2008, his second in 2010 and then retired later that year.

Bones was bred to buck. Across PBR 43 outs, Bones gave up only five qualified rides (90.7% buck-off percentage). He’s only the fourth bull given the PBR Brand of Honor, the sport’s highest honor for an animal athlete.

Nine-time World Champion Ty Murray said Bones was one in a million.

“Bones was super athletic,” Murray said. “He could do things in how high and vertical he’d kick that you wouldn’t think a bull could physically do.”

Bones will be buried on Teague’s farm, beside three-time World Champion, Little Yellow Jacket.
