CBS GAMES OF THE WEEK SPOTLIGHT: Missouri Thunder (3-6) at Oklahoma Wildcatters (4-4-1) and Arizona Ridge Riders (4-5) and Nashville Stampede (5-5)

The No. 9 Missouri Thunder (3-6) take on the No. 5 Oklahoma Wildcatters (4-4-1) in the first of a CBS Television Network’s Game of the Week doubleheader airing on Sunday, August 18, at 1 p.m. EDT. In their first matchup of the season in Duluth, Georgia, the Wildcatters got the upper hand, downing the Thunder 334.75-176. The highest-marked ride of the game belonged to Missouri’s Paulo Eduardo Rossetto, who covered Eyes On Me for 89.75 points. Rossetto has served as an anchor for the Thunder, leading the team with four qualified rides.

On the other side, the Wildcatters got key conversions from Josh Frost and Clay Guiton, who have both helped propel the team to a 4-4-1 record as PBR Teams closes in on the midway point of the season. Guiton, who the Wildcatters selected with the second overall pick in the 2024 PBR Teams Draft, has gone 5-for-10 this season and is No. 9 in the MVP standings, second among rookies to only No. 1 John Crimber. Frost, who was the Wildcatters second selection in the 2024 PBR Teams Expansion Draft, has been a solid veteran presence, going 2-for-6 (33.33%).

In the second matchup of the doubleheader, the No. 6 Arizona Ridge Riders (4-5) battle the hometown No. 4 Nashville Stampede (5-4). Arizona defeated the Stampede in a shootout, 340.50-255, in their first matchup of the year during Wildcatter Days in Oklahoma City. However, entering Stampede Days, Arizona lost their last two while Nashville won both of their matchups in Brooklyn. Arizona has been led by a resurgent season from veteran Keyshawn Whitehorse, who is currently No. 5 in the MVP race and has gone 5-for-9 (55.6%) this season.

Meanwhile, the Nashville Stampede have climbed up the rankings thanks to a breakout star of their own in Alan de Souza, who is currently No. 7 in the MVP race and 5-for-12 (41.7%) on the season. Souza leads all riders with four outs in the Shootout Rounds, where he has gone 2-for-4, matching Crimber for the most rides in the special round this season. He also came in clutch last week against the Oklahoma Wildcatters, covering Snuggles for 84.75 points in what ended up being the only ride of the game. Not to be overlooked is veteran Silvano Alves, who has made the 8 during the first two Stampede Days, including an 88-point walk off ride against the Missouri Thunder last August inside Bridgestone Arena. The three-time PBR World Champion is currently 4-for-9 (44.4%) on the season as he looks to convert for a third-straight year in front of the Stampede’s hometown fans.
