Rafael Nadal announces retirement from tennis, will conclude career at Davis Cup Finals next month.

For more than two decades Rafael Nadal has inspired, entertained and revolutionized the tennis world. But today's announcement is proof that all good things must come to an end.

And that ending will come in about a month from now, after one more big tournament.

It's safe to say there will never be another Rafael Nadal. Going all the way back to 2001, when he went Pro as a 15-year-old, everyone knew they we're watching something special. The very next season he became the youngest tennis player to win a match on the professional circuit.

And from there... an abundance of greatness would follow...

Nadal has won 22 Grand Slams over his illustrious career. He is regarded as the greatest clay court player in tennis history. Nadal has 14 French Open titles under his belt. That's a huge reason why Nadal was one of the final torch bearers during this year's Paris Olympics... and he's not even French.

But after countless battles and riveting victories, Father Time has finally caught up with the 38-year-old Spaniard.

Nadal has been hampered by numerous injuries in recent years. In a video statement posted on social media, the tennis great said, "The reality is that it has been some difficult years, these last two especially. I don't think I have been able to play without limitations. It is obviously a difficult decision, one that takes me some time to make."

Another example of Nadal's greatness was the fact that even his biggest rival admired him.

Via Instagram, Roger Federer paid homage to Nadal.

"What a career, Rafa." Federer wrote. "I always hoped this day would never come. Thank you for the unforgettable memories and all your incredible achievements in the game we love. It's been an absolute honour!"

On top of his 22 Grand Slam titles, Nadal made 30 Grand Slam finals appearances, he claimed 92 ATP Tour-level singles titles, he also won four Davis Cup titles.

He will play for Spain against the Netherlands in the Davis Cup in Malaga from Nov. 19-21, bringing an end to one of the greatest careers the game of tennis will ever see.
