Season 1 | Episode 66
Is it really “just weed?” Dr. Phil explores the impact of today’s more potent marijuana, from addiction, psychosis, and even suicide.
Dr. Phil exposes the intense and often misunderstood world of modern marijuana, which boasts THC levels as high as 96%—a significant jump from the 4% THC found in the 1990s. With more than 240 million marijuana-related 911 calls a year, marijuana emergencies are on the rise. Dr. Phil is joined by Heather and Randy, parents mourning the tragic loss of their son Randy Jr., who committed suicide while addicted to marijuana. We also hear from Kobe, who attributes his three psychotic episodes to marijuana use, and his mother Linda, who also believes high-potency marijuana led to her son’s psychosis. Additionally, Jane West, Founder, and CEO of a Marijuana “Lifestyle” Company, says she uses marijuana daily, and advocates for legalization. Offering a different view is Aubree Adams, an anti-marijuana advocate and founder of “Every Brain Matters.” Also joining the conversation is Aaron Smith, Executive Director of the National Cannabis Industry and Dr. Karen Randell, an emergency room physician, who shares her experiences treating patients as young as nine months old affected by marijuana. Dr. Phil navigates these complex issues, offering insights into how drastically marijuana has changed and the stark reality of its impact on today’s users.
