Tuesday, May 7, 2024

Season 1 | Episode 26

New rules allowing young athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness are stirring debate. How are lucrative deals impacting the game, ethics and players? Dr Phil discusses whether N.I.L is fair game.

From kindergarten through college, students at all levels are competing in athletics. New NCAA rules known as Name, Image, and Likeness allow student athletes to profit off their skill and popularity. The potential for youth stars to receive lucrative deals is changing the game. But is it for the better? Critics say N.I.L is eroding sportsmanship, creating entitled athletes and a new crop of 'sports manager' parents, pushing their kids to the brink for some bucks. Dr. Phil talks to N.I.L sensations the Cavinder Twins, a youth sports trainer, an ambitious basketball dad, and a former pro tennis player about the intense highs and harsh realities of competitive sports.
